Canadian Woman Killed at Mexico City’s Teotihuacan Pyramids
CANADA – A Canadian woman was on Monday shot and killed at Mexico City’s Teotihuacan pyramids before the gunman took his own life, according to authorities.
The woman was killed while several others were injured at the popular tourist site, Mexico’s Security Cabinet said on US social media company X.
Without sharing any details about the alleged gunman or the victim, the Cabinet said that a firearm, a bladed weapon, and live cartridges were seized at the site.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum conveyed her condolences over the incident and said she was in contact with the Canadian Embassy.
On X, Sheinbaum also instructed the Security Cabinet to investigate the deadly incident.
Also on X, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand described the incident as “a horrific act of gun violence” and conveyed her condolences to those affected.
“Global Affairs consular officials are in touch to provide assistance,” she said, expressing thanks to her Mexican counterpart Roberto Velasco Alvarez “for being in close contact and responding quickly to this situation.”
