War-Damaged Building Collapse Kills 1 in Gaza City as Settler Violence and Army Raids Continue in West Bank
PALESTINE – A building that had earlier sustained damage from Israeli strikes near the intersection of Al-Jalaa and Al-Oyun streets in Gaza City collapsed on Friday, killing 1 Palestinian and injuring several others.
Local sources said the roof of a home belonging to the Miqdad family collapsed on residents inside the house, killing one person and injuring several others.
The incident comes amid growing warnings about the risks posed by hundreds of thousands of damaged buildings across Gaza, many of which have become uninhabitable and structurally unsafe after Israeli attacks during two years of genocidal war.
Following last October’s ceasefire, thousands of Palestinians returned to damaged homes or their ruins amid a lack of alternatives, particularly mobile homes.
Despite the dangers, many residents say living inside damaged houses, even unsafe ones, remains less harsh than staying in worn-out tents that provide little protection from winter rain and cold nights.
Israeli Army Raids West Bank as Settler Violence Continue
The Israeli army raided a Palestinian town on Friday evening while Israeli occupiers attacked Palestinian property and set fire to a vehicle in the occupied West Bank, according to local sources and Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Local sources said that Israeli forces entered the town of Jaba in the Jenin Governorate in the northern West Bank, where troops deployed across the streets and stopped and searched vehicles.
In the town of Shuqba near Ramallah in the central West Bank, Wafa reported that Israeli occupiers attacked the area surrounding an agricultural structure while several Palestinians were present.
The occupiers set fire to a Palestinian vehicle and smashed the windows of two others before withdrawing from the area as Israeli forces entered the location, the agency said.
The occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has seen an escalation in Israeli military operations including raids, arrests, shootings, and excessive use of force alongside rising occupier attacks on Palestinians and their property.
Since October 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and occupiers have killed 1,155 Palestinians, wounded about 11,750, and led to the arrest of nearly 22,000, according to official Palestinian figures.
Since the ceasefire agreement took effect last October, the Israeli army has killed around 857 Palestinians and injured 2,486 others through shelling and gunfire in violations of the truce, according to a Health Ministry statement issued Thursday.
