For a second day, the US-Iran war has escalated with continued attacks by both sides, after the United States launched attacks against Iranian targets. Tehran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting American military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz from all ships.
As of Thursday morning, clashes between American and Iranian forces were ongoing at sea, while several explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Minab, Sirik and Hengam Island.
American attacks were first alleged to be retaliatory for a downed helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, but later the pretext was changed, with the new attacks said to be forcing Tehran to accept the US terms for a peace deal.
Following the second US attack, the Iranian IRGC conducted strikes across Middle East, including targeting at least 18 American military assets at Ali al-Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber airbases in Kuwait, with videos circulating online showing impacts from Iranian attacks on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
IRGC said on Thursday that it had struck American F-15, F-16 and F-35 fighter jets and facilities at the Jordanian air base, adding that the attack destroyed the command and control center and a large number of fighter jets.
Following American attacks, the Iran's highest military command unit, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, ordered the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for all ships on Thursday, warning that any traffic through the waterway will be targeted.
"From this moment, due to insecurity in the region, the Strait of Hormuz is declared closed to the passage of all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, and any traffic will be targeted," the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said.
Later after the announcement, the IRGC Navy announced that it had struck 2 vessels which were trying to transit through, adding that any new attempts will face decisive action.
Iran has warned that any new attack will be faced with a swift response.
