Light Aircraft Crash in Australia’s Parafield Airport in Adelaide Kills 2
AUSTRALIA – Two people were on Wednesday killed when a light aircraft crashed in Australia’s Parafield Airport in Adelaide, after it hit a hanger, causing fire.
Authorities identified the plane as a Diamond DA42 twin-engine aircraft, with the 2 killed being a pilot and a passenger.
Several people on the ground were injured.
“Shortly after take-off, (the plane) has tragically crashed into hangar 54 at the airport,” local police Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken told reporters.
“Upon collision, that has obviously (caused) significant injuries and fire and damage,” he added.
According to local reports, one of the injured was in critical condition due to fire burns.
“A pathologist is on scene along with Major Crash staff – this (is) subject to a full investigation, and a cordon will remain in place overnight for at least 24 hours as the matter is investigated,” the Inspector said.
The injured were being treated at Royal Adelaide Hospital, some with serious injuries, while others minor and smoke inhalation.
