Israel Launches Strikes on Lebanon Killing at Least 11
LEBANON – At least 11 people were killed after Israeli forces launched strikes targeting the southern and eastern parts of Lebanon on Thursday.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said in a statement that an Israeli strike targeted a motorcycle in the city of Tyre, killing a Palestinian man.
Another strike on the town of Ansariyeh in the Sidon district killed five people, including two children, and wounded five others, the ministry added.
In the Nabatieh district, an airstrike on the town of Jbaa killed four people, including two women, the ministry said.
The National News Agency (NNA) reported that a Lebanese man was killed in a separate early morning strike that hit his home in the town of Hebbariyeh in the Hasbaya district.
Israeli warplanes also struck the Jabal al-Rafii area in the Iqlim al-Tuffah highlands and targeted a home overnight in the Salam neighborhood of Nabatieh, the agency said.
In the Bint Jbeil district, a strike hit the area between the towns of Kafra and Haris.
The agency said heavy clashes broke out in Bint Jbeil between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli forces, with the involvement of Israeli warplanes and helicopters.
Intermittent fighting also took place at the entrances to the city, while Israeli forces demolished homes near the main market, according to the report.
The Israeli army renewed warnings for residents south of the Zahrani River to evacuate their homes and head north ahead of possible attacks.
Mohammad Hammoud, director of Tebnine Hospital in the Bint Jbeil district, said an Israeli strike hit the area around the hospital, causing severe damage.
Another strike hit a nearby commercial building, sparking a fire that civil defense teams worked to extinguish, he added.
Israeli aircraft also carried out strikes early Thursday on the towns of Sarafand and Tebnine and targeted an office belonging to a Palestinian organization in the Burj al-Shamali camp, the agency reported.
In the Marjayoun district, overnight strikes targeted the towns of Khiam and Debbineh alongside artillery shelling.
In the western Bekaa, Israeli aircraft carried out two strikes at dawn on the town of Sahmar, causing heavy damage to homes, the agency said.
Additional strikes targeted Wadi Shbeil in the Qatrani area of Jezzine after overnight raids on the same area cut electricity to the towns of Qatrani and Sreireh, according to the report.
Israel has continued attacks across Lebanon following a cross-border strike by Hezbollah on March 2, despite a November 2024 ceasefire agreement.
Lebanese health authorities say more than 2,160 people have been killed, with over 7,000 injured and well over one million displaced since March.
