Iranian Cargo Ship Pursued by US Forces Arrives in Port
IRAN – An Iranian cargo ship which was being pursued by the US forces in the Sea of Oman in an attempted seizure arrived at its destination, according to media reports on Thursday. The ship was carrying rice.
Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that the vessel was escorted by naval units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and reached its destination safely.
Iran confirmed Monday that US forces seized an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman, accusing Washington of violating a ceasefire and warning of retaliation.
On Feb. 28, the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran, which retaliated with strikes on Israel and other regional countries hosting US assets.
The US-Israeli operations killed more than 3,300 people before Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire on April 8 mediated by Pakistan.
While originally scheduled to expire on April 22, US President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the truce on April 21 at the request of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military chief Asim Munir.
