Uganda Releases Kenyan Activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo

KENYAKenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were on Saturday released from Ugandan custody and received by the Busia County Commissioner at the border.

The two were released at around 1:00 A.M local time after going missing for 38 days.

Their release comes after the Kenyan government together with human rights groups pressed Ugandan government for their whereabouts.

The two disappeared on October 1, 2025, in Uganda under unclear circumstances shortly after they were linked with opposition politician Bobi Wine’s campaign trail in Buyende and Kamuli districts.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei confirmed their release on US social media X saying that “Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo are free and on Kenyan territory. Late last night, after lengthy engagements, the two were released to our High Commissioner in Uganda, Joash Maangi.”

“They were escorted by the Ambassador and officials of the Uganda government to Busia border town and were received by Busia County Commissioner, Chaunga Mwachaunga. Deeply grateful for the efforts by different actors who made this outcome possible. We shall be releasing a more detailed account later,” he added.

The two were seen to be in good health conditions.
