IRAN – As the US-Israeli war on Iran continues, explosions were on Saturday reported in Tehran.
Iran’s Mehr news agency said sounds of explosions were heard in several areas of Tehran.
The Israeli army said in an earlier statement that more than 80 Israeli Air Force fighter jets carried out an additional wave of strikes targeting infrastructure belonging to the “Iranian regime” in Tehran and other areas of central Iran.
Saudi Arabi Claims Intercepting Drones & Missiles
Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that it had intercepted 23 drones and three missiles in its airspace.
On US social media company X, the Saudi Defense Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed two drones east of the capital, Riyadh.
It added that 21 drones were intercepted in the Empty Quarter desert after attempting to attack the Shaybah oil field in the country’s southeast.
The ministry also said it intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base in the Al-Kharj province, southeast of the capital Riyadh.
The ministry did not specify the source of the drones or missiles, though the incident coincides with Iranian attacks targeting sites in several Arab countries.
Iran on Feb. 28 launched missiles and drones toward Israel and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets, leading in some cases to casualties and damage to civilian sites, including ports and residential buildings.
Tehran says the attacks came in response to a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
Iran to Halt Attacks on Neighbors
Iran’s president said on Saturday that his country will refrain from attacking neighboring states unless attacks are launched against Iran from their territory, state-run Press TV reported.
“The temporary leadership council announced yesterday that there will be no more attacks on neighboring countries and no missile launches unless attacks originate from those countries against Iran,” Masoud Pezeshkian said in a televised address to the Iranian people.
He also apologized to neighboring countries amid rising regional tensions, saying Iran has “no intention of invading other countries.”
Pezeshkian also dismissed expectations that Iran would surrender unconditionally, saying that those who nurse such hopes “will take their dreams to the grave.”
Escalating regional tensions followed the Feb. 28 launch of joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, killing more than 1,000 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.
The conflict has triggered widespread regional instability and retaliatory attacks from Tehran against US-linked sites across the region.
