USA – The South Carolina State University was on Saturday night on lock-down after a shooting incident was reported at the Hugine Suites residence hall.
According to a university alert, residents not in the Hugine Suites were instructed to report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
“Anyone in Hugine Suites stay put. Students in other residence halls return to your rooms. Off-campus residents, please exit the campus,” said the alert from the school.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace issued a statement, “Praying for everyone at South Carolina State University tonight. Please stay safe and follow law enforcement instructions as they respond to reports of a shooting on campus. Our hearts are with the students, faculty, and families affected.”
Campus security requested the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate.
The school canceled a planned “Homecoming concert” following the shooting.
One person was killed and 2 others injured during the shooting.
All Monday classes were cancelled.
