Latest Updates on the Texas Measles Outbreak

New Cases Recorded in Two New Counties

From the Texas Department of State Health Services as of April 1, Erath and Brown counties are the latest to record the outbreak.

The Texas measles outbreak was first discovered in Gains County in the late January, but now has started to spread to other areas.

Recorded Fatalities

As of April 25, there has only been 2 recorded deaths from measles in school children who were not vaccinated and lived in the outbreak areas.

The outbreak is currently majorly being recorded to persons under 18 years old.

64 have been hospitalized since the outbreak.

Signs & Symptoms

Measles is highly contagious, and CDC have recommended Mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine as a lasting protection against measles virus.

After contact with the virus, symptoms start to appear between 7 to 14 days. The symptoms are as follow:
