Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Hit Sulawesi Indonesia, 29 Injured

INDONESIA – At least 29 people were injured after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Sulawesi Indonesia early Sunday, according to local reports.

The quake occurred at 0.38 local time (2238GMT Saturday) at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) and affected the Poso Regency, with tremors felt in nearby regions. Among the injured, two individuals were reported to be critically hurt.

The country’s disaster management agency (BNPB) confirmed there were no immediate fatalities and that there was no tsunami risk.

The BPBD also reported damage to the Elim Congregation Church in Masani Village, while data collection on the number of evacuees is still underway.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 18 kilometers northwest of Poso, 82 kilometers northeast of Sigi, 89 kilometers northwest of North Morowali and 93 kilometers southeast of Palu City.
