MADAGASCAR – Madagascar president Michael Randrianirina on Monday dismissed the Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo and entire cabinet, with no explanation.

“The President will shortly proceed with the appointment of a new prime minister, following procedures set out by the constitution,” Harry Laurent Rahajason, communications director of the presidency, said in a statement issued in Antananarivo, the capital.

Randrianirina assumed control of the Indian Ocean island nation following protests that forced out his predecessor, Andry Rajoelina, who subsequently fled the country last October.

At the end of February, Randrianirina indicated that elections under the Re-foundation of the Republic of Madagascar would be held in 2027.
