NEWSBREAK: RUSSIAKursk Region Liberated from Ukrainian Forces in Russia – Russia’s Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov has reported to president Vladimir Putin that Kursk region has been fully liberated from Ukrainian forces.

After being briefed, Putin thanked the Russian forces, adding that “the Kiev regime’s adventure has completely failed, and the huge losses suffered by the enemy, including among the most combat-ready, trained and equipped, including by western models of equipment.”

The Russian forces are now said to be locating any remnants of Ukrainian forces still hiding in the region.

Kyiv’s Losses in Kursk Region

From the Chief of General Staff Kyiv’s losses in Kursk region since August last year are as follows:

  • Over 76,000 Ukrainian forces killed and wounded
  • Over 7,700 units of military equipment
  • 412 tanks
  • 314 armored personnel carriers
  • 340 infantry fighting vehicles

Role of North Korean Soldiers in Kursk Region

A Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement was signed by North Korea and Russia last year, which saw Pyongyang send its troops to help in liberating the Kursk region after Ukrainian incursion the same year.

The Chief of General Staff recognized the support role played by the North Korean military during the operation, saying that “the DPRK military, acting shoulder to shoulder with the Russian military in Kursk Region, showed resilience and heroism.”

Commenting on this, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added that Russia “will never forget our friends.

What Ukraine is Saying About Russia’s Full Liberation of Kursk Region

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has refuted Russian claims of a full liberation of Kursk region saying that “the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to carry out defensive operations in certain areas of the Kursk region within Russian territory. While the operational situation remains challenging, Ukrainian units are successfully maintaining their positions and completing assigned tasks. They are also inflicting significant damage on Russian forces through the use of all available weaponry, employing active defense tactics.”

He also added that “there is no threat of encirclement facing the Defense Forces. Claims from the enemy leadership about the defeat of Ukrainian troops are merely propaganda and an attempt to present wishful thinking as reality.”
