Israel Launches Air Strikes on Lebanon

LEBANONIsrael launches air strikes on Lebanon targeting eastern and southern regions of Tyre and Baalbek. This was reported by local media in the early hours on Friday.

The strikes hit Aaziyyeh and a valley between the towns of Majdal Zoun and Al-Jibbain in the Tyre region, while additional bombardments struck areas around Bodai in Baalbek-Hermel in the east.

Lebanese outlets reported that the attacks follow a series of airstrikes carried out a day earlier on Tyre and Nabatieh, also in southern Lebanon.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the recent escalation, highlighting the timing of the strikes just days ahead of municipal elections in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) noted that the attacks were among the most intense since March, despite a ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon that came into effect on Nov. 27 last year.

Israeli forces also reportedly maintain positions in five areas along the border in violation of the agreement’s withdrawal clause, continuing operations inside Lebanese territory.
