IRAN – Iran has announced that it’ll launch a new uranium enrichment site in a secure location in protest to IAEA resolution, calling it politically motivated and biased. Advanced IR-6 centrifuges will replace the older first-generation centrifuges at the Shahid Dr. Alimohammadi (Fordow) site.
The Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran criticized the resolution, adding that Iran has always complied with its safeguards obligations.
The ministry condemned the US, the UK, and France for failing to fulfill their nuclear disarmament obligations under Article VI of the NPT and slammed Germany for hosting deadly and inhumane nuclear arms.
“These actions by the four countries have seriously undermined the credibility and integrity of the IAEA and further revealed the agency’s political character,” the ministry said.
Iran rebuked the silence of these countries regarding Israel’s nuclear arsenal and its refusal to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The IAEA Resolution on Iran in Question
The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog concluded Thursday that Iran is violating its non-proliferation obligations, prompting the agency’s Board of Governors to adopt a resolution declaring the country non-compliant with its international nuclear commitments.
The resolution, passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-member board, comes amid growing international concern over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Diplomatic sources said 19 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while Russia, China and Burkina Faso voted against it. Eleven countries abstained.
