SAUDI ARABIA – At least 45 Indian Umrah pilgrims were killed in a bus crash on Monday in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The bus hit a tanker and burst into flames in Medina on Monday morning according to local authorities, killing all on board but one.
The bus was carrying passengers from Mecca to Medina when the collision occurred.
According to reports, many passengers were asleep at the time of the crash, giving them little chance to escape as the bus was quickly consumed by fire.
The Hyderabad Police Commissioner confirmed that 45 were killed in the crash, while only 1 person survived.
“Forty-five people have died, and there is only one survivor who is currently in the hospital,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said.

The Telangana government also opened helplines at +91 79979 59754 and +91 99129 19545, and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed deep grief over the tragedy, saying that full support will be given to the affected families.
“Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving the fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he wrote on the US social media platform X.
