KENYA – As Rigathi Gachagua returns from the United States, heavy police deployment at JKIA was witnessed in early hours of Thursday.
Political allies of Gachagua and supporters had started to gather in anticipation for his return.
Regular police and anti-riot units of the GSU had been deployed, with thorough checks being undertaken at entry and exits at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Hundreds of supporters had been rallied at the JKIA, with chants, songs and dances being witnessed.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy, Cleopas Malala had urged their supporters to gather in large numbers to welcome their leader, adding that they’ll conduct the “mother of all peaceful processions from JKIA to CBD and later address a rally at Kamkunji Grounds.”
A day earlier, the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had warned the planned congregation saying that the security sector is fully prepared to handle any form of insecurity happenings and disruptions.
