Australia’s Chief of Joint Capabilities Lt. Gen. Susan Coyle Becomes First Female Army Chief
AUSTRALIA – Australia‘s Chief of Joint Capabilities Lt. Gen. Susan Coyle was on Monday named as the next chief of army, becoming the first Australian female army chief in the country’s 125-year history.
Lt. Gen. Susan Coyle, will be appointed as the new army chief after the retirement of incumbent army chief Lt. Gen. Simon Stuart in July, according to a statement from the office of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
“From July, we will have the first-ever female Chief of Army in the Australian Army’s 125 year history,” he said.
Enlisting as a soldier in the Army Reserves in 1987, Coyle has worked at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels and in command roles, including Head of Information Warfare, Commander Forces Command, Commander Joint Task Force 633, Commander 6th Brigade, Commander Task Group Afghanistan and Commanding Officer 17th Signal Regiment.
The navy chief Vice Adm. Mark Hammond has been named as the country’s new Chief of the Defense Force.
Including, reservists and civilians, the strength of the Australian Defense Forces reached 61,189 personnel last July, according to the Australian Defense Ministry.
