African Military Delegation in China for Possible Long-term Partnership

KENYA – A military delegation of over 40 African nations started their 10-day visit to China on Monday after an invitation by the Chinese Defense Ministry. Among the nations are Kenya, Egypt, Mozambique and Tanzania.

During their stay, the delegation will participate in exchange activities and visit several cities, including Beijing, Changsha and Shaoshan in central Hunan province, the ministry said.

Earlier this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged 1 billion yuan (about $136 million) in military aid to Africa during a trip to Namibia, DR Congo, Chad, and Nigeria.

Wang also said China would help train 6,000 troops and 1,000 police officers across the continent.

The African delegation’s visit follows the conclusion of a joint air force training exercise between China and Egypt.

The 18-day exercise, called Eagles of Civilization 2025, was held at an Egyptian air base and ended Sunday.
