USA – The National Guard deployment in Washington has been extended until November 30 by the US Army according to a local report.
Around 950 Guard members are affected by the extension, though President Donald Trump could still shorten or prolong their mission.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll approved the move Wednesday, the report said.
Brig. Gene. Leland D. Blanchard II, the commander of the DC Guard, said in a video message that “our mission is not complete” and pledged to continue ensuring safety in the nation’s capital.
Trump first called in the Guard last month, citing what he described as uncontrolled crime in Washington.
Since then, Guard members have been visible in the capital, including around the National Mall.
