RUSSIA – The western media reported that a plane carrying EU’s president Ursula von der Leyen was hit by a GPS jamming in what was publicized as a Russian attack on Sunday even without solid proof to back the claims.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday responded saying that these claims were false and a distraction of EU population from the economic problems facing the bloc.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the allegations preposterous and 100% false which are aimed at discrediting Russia on the world stage.
She added that the allegations were also meant to drive attention away from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit which was being held in Tianjin, China.
“It is not just paranoia, but a cynical plot to distract their own population from the EU’s worsening economic situation and from considering the real culprits behind the European crisis – the irresponsible, kleptocratic political elites of the European Union,” she said.
According to Flightradar24 data, the Ursula von der Leyen’s plane reported good GPS signal quality from take-off to landing, contradicting with EU and western media claims.
Russia has been constantly been subjected to such allegations by EU and affiliated Nordic and Baltic countries since it launched its full-scale war on Ukraine, which makes it had to pinpoint truths from public relations stunts.
Russia was also accused of blowing up the Nord Stream pipeline, which was later confirmed to be a Ukrainian sabotage.
As the Ukraine war rages on, much of what is shared is often propaganda engineered to mislead the public and try to display Russia in a certain “evil” way, which warrants careful consideration due to media bias.
