RUSSIA – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned Donald Trump against playing ultimatums with Russia, saying that Russia isn’t Israel or Iran.
Trump had previously said that he’d impose additional sanctions against Russia if no deal on Ukraine was reached within 50 days.
He later reduced the timeframe to between 10 and 12 days, saying that if no ceasefire is achieved within that period, he’d impose sweeping tariffs on Russia’s trading partners.
“I’m going to set a new deadline… about 10 or 12 days from today. There’s no reason to wait. I wanted to be generous, but we’re just not seeing any progress,” Trump said on Monday.
Medvedev on the other hand warned Trump from “going down the Sleepy Joe (Joe Biden) road.”
Russia has been saying that it seeks to attain all its objectives in its special military operation in Ukraine, adding that Kyiv must remain a neutral country free from any military alliance.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday reiterated that “No dragging Ukraine into NATO, no NATO expansion at all,” adding that “It has already expanded right up to our borders.”
