Armed Gunmen Attack Syrian Army Headquarters in Mayadin Killing Soldier
SYRIA – A soldier was killed when armed gunmen attacked the Syrian army headquarters in Mayadin city, located in Deir ez-Zor province, according to local reports on Tuesday.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Earlier Monday, four Syrian security personnel were killed in an attack by the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist group targeting a security checkpoint west of the city of Raqqa in northeastern Syria, the Interior Ministry said.
ISIS sleeper cells are active in the region, which the terrorist group gained control over in 2014 before it was pushed out three years later by a US-led international coalition.
The area later fell under the control of the YPG/SDF terror group before the Syrian Army recently regained control of the region.
