SOUTH KOREA – Former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol has been indicted today, Thursday for “abuse of power” over his declaration of his short-lived martial law, local media reported. This indictment however doesn’t include an arrest.

Insurrection Charges Against Yoon
The indictment is in addition to an ongoing trial on insurrection charges, brought against Yoon over his botched martial law bid on Dec. 3.
The prosecution’s special team investigating the case said Yoon was indicted without physical detention for allegedly abusing his authority and obstructing the exercise of rights as he ordered soldiers and police to block the National Assembly last year.
Yoon is the first sitting president in South Korea‘s history to be indicted under detention.
The prosecution stated that they have sufficient evidence to charge him with power abuse.
Yoon is accused of conspiring with former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and others to incite an insurrection last year by declaring an unconstitutional and illegal state of emergency, despite the absence of any signs of war, armed conflict or a comparable national crisis.
