Midair Plane Collision in Sydney Kills 1

AUSTRALIA – A light aircraft pilot was on Sunday killed in a midair plane collision in Sydney according to local reports.

The incident occurred in Sydney’s southwest as one of the planes crashed into nearby bushland, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The planes were part of a formation flight with 2 others.

The second plane was able to land safely, and the pilot remained unhurt.

“One of the aircraft involved in the collision landed safely but the other aircraft collided with terrain and its pilot was fatally injured,” the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said in a statement.

“Over coming days, investigators will undertake site mapping, examine aircraft wreckage and damage, and recover any relevant components for further examination at the ATSB’s technical facilities in Canberra,” ATSB added.

The body of the deceased pilot was located nearby.
