TONGA ISLAND – A 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Tonga Island on Thursday, with the German Research Center for Geosciences (GEOFON) saying that no immediate reports of a tsunami warning.
The quake hit the Tonga Islands region at 5.38 pm (0438GMT), GEOFON added.
Earlier, the center had said the magnitude of the tremor was recorded as 6.0 on the Richter Scale.
The US Geological Survey also recorded the intensity as 5.6 on the Richter scale, while the depth of the earthquake was measured between 10-25 kilometers (6-15 miles).
There were no immediate reports of damage to life or infrastructure.

In other reports, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 has struck off Japan’s eastern Ibaraki prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The quake originated in the Pacific at 4.13 am local time Thursday (1913GMT Wednesday) at a depth of about 50 kilometers (31 miles).
No tsunami warning was issued, the Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported.
There were no reports of casualties or infrastructural losses.
