INDIA – At least 10 Indian army personnel were on Thursday killed and at least 10 others injured after their vehicle plunged into a gorge in Jammu & Kashmir‘s Doda district.
According to officials, the accident happened at Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba road, when the military vehicle was carrying the troops to a higher ground.
The vehicle lost control, skidded off the road and fell into an almost 200-feet gorge.
Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to retrieve the bodies and evacuate the injured.
In a statement after the accident, the local Jammu & Kashmir governor Manoj Sinha issued a statement, consoling the families of the affected.
“Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of 10 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate road accident in Doda. We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. My deepest condolences to the grieving families. In this moment of profound sorrow, the entire nation stands united with the bereaved families in solidarity and support,” Sinha said.
The Indian defense minister Rajnath Singh confirmed the accident, adding that the injured soldiers were getting medical care.
The Indian army’s White Knight Corps also confirmed the accident, adding that there were multiple casualties.
